For families in the Tampa Bay area, the Microsoft Store host free workshops to help children use their imagination to customize their own coding projects and explore new technologies. The parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver of every workshop participant under 17 years of age must sign a Participation Agreement upon arrival and remain in Microsoft Store for the duration of the event.

DigiGirlz 2 Hour Workshop: Women in Gaming
This free, 2-hour DigiGirlz workshop is an engaging interactive way for young women ages 8-18 to understand more about how computer science and coding will open opportunities for them. They will meet a local woman who works in gaming; and find out that a successful career in technology is within their reach. They will also get a hands-on introduction to coding, creating their own project.Don’t miss this opportunity to meet new role models, get inspired by the pros, and get a hands-on introduction to the world of coding.
Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit workshop ages 8+ This free one-hour workshop introduces students eight and above to the foundational concepts of coding. Participants will follow simple steps with drag-and-drop code blocks and create Harry Potter spell motions, magical creatures, and artefacts, all with the coding wand and a Surface device. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to: * Define basic coding concepts * Use their imagination to customize their own coding projects * Explain the relationship between hardware and software in coding The parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver of every workshop participant under 17 years of age must sign a Participation Agreement upon arrival and remain in Microsoft Store for the duration of the event. Everybody Can Be a Superhero – Photos App: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Edition
In celebration of diversity and inclusion, participants will discover how to create magical videos including mixed reality and 3D using Photos. They’ll explore the basics of mixed reality and 3D and learn how to create artwork. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the chance to use their new skills to create artwork that expresses the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse theme that “Everybody can be a superhero”

The hands-on hour includes instruction on how to set up your Xbox One, create child accounts linked to adult accounts and adjust family settings to fit the needs of your family.
