A pillar of SMG’s Outreach since 2001, our monthly Special Needs Screenings are designed for families raising children with special needs. Special Needs Screenings are shown with the lights up and the volume lowered and children are free to move around, talk, or even dance in the aisles during the movie.
The sensory friendly screenings are free for children with special needs and their siblings. Adult tickets are available at before-noon price.
For many families, going to see a movie is an entertaining way to spend time together. But for kids with autism and their families, the traditional movie experience can be pretty overwhelming. The loud sounds and the dark can be over simulated, and the need to watch the movie in silence can be hard for the kids. For many families with kids with autism, going to a movie theater together is simply not an option.
Fortunately, movie theaters across the country have recognized the need to offer sensory-friendly viewings and Studio Movie Grill is one of them!
Special Needs Screenings are shown at 11:00am at all SMG locations except EpiCentre. Parental guidance is always suggested.
