Free DIY Projects for Kids Every Month

My kids have been attending Lowe’s Kids Workshops since they were little, and it has always been one of our favorite free activities. There’s just something special about watching them put on their apron, pick up real tools, and build a project all on their own.

Each workshop gives kids the chance to create a hands-on project while learning basic building skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether it’s a toolbox, birdhouse, or seasonal craft, they always leave excited to show off what they made.

One of the things I love most is the sense of accomplishment it gives them. They aren’t just coloring or watching something happen—they’re actually building it themselves. You can see their confidence grow as they hammer, assemble, and complete their project. My kids are always so proud to bring their creations home.

What Are Lowe’s Kids Workshops?

Lowe’s Kids Workshops are free monthly events held at participating Lowe’s stores. Each registered child receives a free project kit that includes all materials needed to complete the activity.

Workshops are recommended for children ages 4-11, but kids of all ages are welcome. Parents or guardians must remain with their children during the event.

No purchase is required to participate.

How the Workshops Work

Workshops are typically held the third Saturday each month at participating Lowe’s locations. So you can still visit Home Depot on the 1st Saturday of the month.

Families can choose from available time slots and enjoy a guided, hands-on building experience inside the store. Most projects take about an hour to complete.

Can’t attend during the workshop hours? Some locations may offer a take-home kit option while supplies last. Check with your local store for details.

How to Register

Registration is required and can be completed through the Lowe’s Kids Workshop page.

Workshops often fill quickly, especially for holiday-themed projects, so families are encouraged to register as soon as reservations open.

A new project is released each month, making this a fun activity families can enjoy all year long.
