Need to entertain your baby, toddler or preschooler? Then you may want to try some fun storytime options in the Tampa Bay Area. It’s not only fun for the kids it’s one less thing you have to plan and most are FREE or Included in your membership at no additional cost! All you need to do is show up and usually they have a fun book to read out loud,  finger plays and other activities that may accompany storytime. The magic of storytelling ignites the imagination, fosters language skills, and creates cherished moments to last a lifetime.

1. Barnes & Noble Storytime

Barnes & Noble is not just for adults to get books, they also have fun and engaging storytimes for kids on the weekends. From classic storybooks to
contemporary favorites, these sessions offer a fun opportunity for families to connect with their little ones. While you’re there make sure to stop by their children’s book section to find a book to take home with you. During storytimes they occasionally have authors there with signed copies of their books that you can purchase.

Age Group: These storytimes are geared toward littles between two and six years old, but older kids are always welcome!

Price: Free

Location: Multiple locations throughout Tampa Bay including Tampa, Brandon, Carrollwood, Clearwater, Wesley Chapel, and St. Petersburg,

Dates & Times: Usually held weekly on Saturdays at 11:00am.

2. Local Libraries (Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties)

The libraries in Tampa Bay are a treasure trove of stories just waiting to be discovered! Storytime sessions at the local libraries are free and open to all. They have baby story time, toddler and preschool storytimes. The baby and toddler storytimes often include simple stories, songs, and rhymes to engage the littles.

Preschool storytime for three to five-year-olds are more interactive with longer stories, movement activities, and even some crafts.  Storytime sessions in the libraries are typically held on weekday mornings and they vary by library branch. 3. Tombolo Books – St. Petersburg

If you prefer a more intimate setting, head on over to Tombolo Books in St. Petersburg. Come for a super fun morning of songs, stories, bubbles, and her special puppet friend Lambchop. While all kids are welcome, activities and stories are geared towards smaller children up to 4 years old.

You can jump into storytime at Tombolo every Thursday morning at 9:30!

4. Storytime at Sesame Street Safari of Fun at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

We bet your little one has a beloved character that they would love to spend time with! Storytime at Sesame Street Safari of Fun in Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has engaging and interactive storytelling sessions. Your little ones can spend time under the warm Florida sun with all their favorites like Elmo, Big Bird, and friends as they sing catchy tunes and tell their tales. Storytime happens every day over at the Sunny Day Theater Stage. For more specific times, you will want to check the schedule ahead of your visit.

5. Glazer Children’s Museum -(Learn & Play) 

When you visit Glazer Children’s Museum, you will find that learning meets play in the best ways possible. Picture the delight in your child’s eyes as they are taken on a storytelling journey complete with whimsical tales of far-off lands to more interactive adventures that are sure to spark their curiosity.

This Tampa Bay museum offers weekly 60-minute play sessions complete with songs and stories. Participation is for younger children up to 5 years old. There is no cost to attend these sessions, but you do need to enroll yourself and your little ones ahead of time for their 10-week program.

6. Toddler Tuesdays at ZooTampa at Lowry Park

Ready to roar with excitement at ZooTampa at Lowry Park’s Toddler Tuesdays? Storytelling meets wildlife in an amazing way! Your littles will love the stories of lions, tigers, and bears while they are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the animal kingdom. They will also be able to participate in hands-on activities and animal encounters.

Toddler Tuesdays welcome children of all ages, but these sessions are tailored for ages two through six. It is also a members-only event.

7. Book Time at Brooker Creek Preserve

Book Time at Brooker Creek Preserve lets kids experience the magic of storytelling at The Brooker Creek Preserve. Make sure to take a nice walk while you’re there to surround yourself by towering trees and bird chirps and connecting to the natural world around them. In addition to hearing a great story, your child will participate in a craft related to the story that is read. This activity is recommended for ages 3 to 5.

These Thursday storytimes at 10:30 am are recommended for three to five-year-olds,
and registration is not required.

Bring your Preschooler to this program designed to connect them to the wonders of the natural world.

Registration is not required for Book Time, just show up with your kiddo! This program is led by Brooker Creek Volunteers.

Family-Friendly Tip: It takes about 10 minutes to drive from the preserve entrance (Keystone Rd.) to the parking lot, and there is a 2-5 minute walk from the parking lot to the Education Center building. They will start promptly at 10:30am. Follow signs to the Exhibit Hall.

8.  Great Explorations Children’s Museum Terrific Tots

Great Explorations Children’s Museum offers Terrific Tots Storytimes that let your little ones hear adventure-filled stories and then dive into hands-on activities that are sure to ignite their curiosity and creativity.

Terrific Tots offers interactive 30-45 minute programs designed for littles that are one to three years old. They have a different theme every week, and members can participate in these sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Storytime Schedule: Weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Terrific Tots themes change once a week and participation is open to members at 10:15 and all toddler families at 10:30. They follow the Pinellas Public School schedule for vacations and holidays.

9. Storytime at Little Play Place

Imagination knows no bounds during storytime at Little Play Place. They are a family-focused, indoor center that knows the value of pretend play for littles in a big world. They host many events during the month, including an interactive storytime on the first Friday of the month designed for toddlers and preschoolers.

10. AquaTots at the Florida Aquarium

Is your child ready to dive into a sea of imagination? Make sure to visit AquaTots at the Florida Aquarium during the seasonal AquaTots program. They have special storytime sessions that combine tales of oceanic wonder with hands-on learning experiences that are perfect for curious young minds. AquaTots was designed with three to five-year-olds in mind and encourages interactions with the parent and child through storytime, crafts, and play.

You will even have the opportunity to tour the aquarium! Their program is aligned with pre-k standards and takes place Wednesday morning between 10 and 11 am. The price per class is $15 and that is for one child and one adult. This pricing doesn’t include Aquarium admission.
