Day Trips: Unique Florida Botanical Garden
This Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in Florida with some breathtaking views! Located nearby Devil’s Den, at Cedar Lakes, you can easily spend an hour or two wandering along the many paths and enjoying the scenery. There are a wide variety of plants, flowers and trees to discover around every corner. There is so much to explore with the beautiful gardens, orchards, ponds and more!
Garden admission includes a brief description and history of Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens and a self-guided tour through 20 acres of botanical creations. A map, drawn by Dr. Webber himself ( discovered the 100+ year old retired lime rock quarry in 1991 & turned it into a botanical garden for the public in 2014), is available at the welcome center.
The trails are well-marked. There are many benches and resting areas along the way. Visitors may stay as long as they choose and they highly recommend bringing a bottle of water and even a picnic!
Most of the trails are shaded, so you can stay nice and cool throughout your time there, which works well with Florida’s year-round heat.
There are so many things to see in the gardens and they are continually making improvements to develop the gardens.
Family-Friendly Tips:
- Dogs are allowed on a leash
- Bring water and mosquito repellant
- When using Google maps for GPS, it will take you into Devil’s Den. Do not turn in; instead, go one more driveway (on the right) which is the actual entrance. – Stef Bloor
