On Saturday, January 10th St. Joseph’s Children Hospital is is holding a free high-back booster seat giveaway from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. åÊin recognition of FloridaÛªs enhanced child restraint law, House Bill 225, which takes effect January. 1, 2015.
This new law requires that all children use a child restraint until their 6th birthday, and a harnessed car seat is required until their 4th birthday.
During the event, child passenger safety technicians will hand out free high-back booster seats (value of $40) and help with installation of the booster seats. Parents and caregivers with a child who has outgrown their car seat or isn’t currently using a booster would be the ideal candidate for the free high-back booster giveaway.
All criteria below must be met to qualify:
- The child must be present.
- The child must be at least 40 pounds.
- The child must be at least 4 years of age.
- The vehicle must be present.

Under the new Florida Law:
-Booster Seats are not permissible for use until the childÛªs 4th birthday. Children should not use a booster seat until they are over 40 pounds and at least 4 years old.
-A Booster Seat must be used with both a lap and shoulder belt until the adult seat belt fits correctly.
-The seat belt should fit ÛÏBelt to Bone.Û Over the shoulder and hips/lap, instead of the soft neck and stomach.
